A chopstick sleeve isn’t just a bag for holding chopsticks—it’s a tool of hospitality that conveys the message, “We’re serving you clean chopsticks.” In this lesson, we’ll fold a total of three designs: two variations based on the instant chopstick sleeve that garnered a lot of attention on Instagram, plus one additional design.

Using everyday paper, we’ll not only cover the folding techniques but also explore the Japanese culture of hospitality embodied in these chopstick sleeves, allowing you to enjoy both the joy of crafting and the fascination of learning about the culture. By the end of the lesson, you’ll have mastered three types of chopstick sleeves that you can use right away at your own dinner table or when entertaining guests.

After completing the lesson, you’ll receive a PDF template of your original design for printing.
This will allow you to recreate the chopstick holders you learned to make in class over and over again at home.

Key Skills You’ll Learn

Basic instructions for folding a simple chopstick holder; instructions for two variations on the theme; creative ways to use everyday paper to add a touch of hospitality; background knowledge on the Japanese culture embodied in chopstick holders; and practical skills you can immediately apply at the dinner table or when entertaining guests.
